This is one pizza delivery vehicle you don't mess with.
Combine a fully built first generation 4G63 engine and an all wheel drivetrain
with a little Colt hatchback and you have a platform that will destroy any
competitor’s ego. The car is purpose built: Turn the key and drive to work
with the ability to hold its own if it finds itself being bullied by an
overpriced exotic or random pony car.
Dan, like many other 4G63 owners, found himself in the position of being
limited by the stock ECU. While the Mitsubishi ECU has proven itself in
plenty of fast vehicles, it lacks in the precise control desired for high
powered applications. Dan was given a MegaSquirt II ecu by a friend for
the cause. I modified the ecu to interface with the factory sensors and
controls. The factory wiring harness was in pretty bad shape and Dan decided
to build a new harness to complement the new engine management system. The
factory cam sensor has been modified with a higher resolution trigger disc
that replaces the factory trigger. Most 4G63 applications seem to run much
better when fitted with a high resolution trigger disc. The amount of power
found with street tuning has taken its toll on the drivetrian. The 4G63
in Dan's colt has already claimed the lives of three transmissions since
the installation of the MegaSquirt.
As of 2/23/10 I have tuned Dan's car to 482whp on a stock intake manifold.
