Aaron's BMW has always stood out as an example of a well
rounded 2002. Wanting to add a little character, tuneability, and power, Aaron
chose to replace the Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection with a modern
electronic fuel injection system. A set of TWM 48mm throttle bodies replaced
the stock intake manifold setup. Aaron came to me to develop a fuel injection
and ignition setup around the engine's new induction configuration.
MegaSquirt II was the engine management of choice for this setup due to
cost and flexibility to be adapted to this project. Josh at
Yoshifab
provided the laser cut the 36-1 trigger wheel that mounted to the engine's
crank pulley. The MegaSquirt ECU was assembled and configured to run the
fuel injection and distributorless wasted spark ignition system. A set of
24# Bosch injectors were fitted to the TWM throttles. The ignition system
consists of a Mitsubishi Power TR ignition module and a pair of DSM wasted
spark coils. The factory distributor has been eliminated. Air/Fuel ratios are monitored with
a
JAW wideband controller.
Aaron keeps a
build
thread on SDDSM, covering the details of the build.
